INGRID AS A DANCER AND TEACHER My goal is to help people find their own unique expression in dance and movement and feel comfortable in their bodies.
Ingrid is a certified "Core Connexion Transformational Arts®" practitioner and an "Open Floor" dance teacher. They are both conscious dance practices which compliment each other beautifully. Ingrid discovered the practice of conscious movement when she lived in San Francisco. After years of dancing the 5Rhythms, she came upon Core Connexion and trained with its founder, Eva Vigran.
Ingrid brings a wealth of experience in yoga, Feldenkrais, mindfulness, meditation and improvisation to this work. Her passion for teaching and leading classes and workshops springs from her own experience with dance as a path to healing and wholeness, as well as self-knowledge and self-expression.
Ingrid started out as a teacher of German as a second language and has been working as a writer and producer of radio documentaries for most of her career. She has a diploma in Art and Creativity from "The Learning Connexion" in Wellington. In 2016 she joined the "Open Floor" teacher training programme. Ingrid has lived in Germany, Great Britain, California and New Zealand. All this comes together in the unique flavour of her classes and choice of music.
Ingrid's Story: I've always liked to dance and have been gifted with parents who enjoyed ballroom dancing as a hobby well into their 80s.
I've tried it all: Ball Room, Salsa, Tango, African, Belly dancing - you name it, I have probably tried it out at one time in my life. But I've never been good at following other people's steps.
That's why I knew I had found my home when I stumbled into my first 5Rhythms class in San Francisco. Once I had discovered it, I've never been able to let it go. Over time I tried out various conscious dance modalities of which there are so many in the San Francisco Bay Area. I soon fell in love with the playfulness, the witnessing practices and down-to earth qualities of Core Connexion. I became friends with its founder, Eva Vigran and took on her offer to start teacher training with her. Since then, I have moved to Wellington, New Zealand. There were no conscious dance classes available and so I started teaching Core Connexion in 2005. I have taught weekly 2 hour dance classes in Wellington and longer workshops in Germany and New Zealand ever since.
I was overjoyed to learn that a group of 5 Rhythms teachers who had been part of the inner circle of its founder, Gabrielle Roth, had banded together and created this new dance practice called "Open Floor". I knew most of them and when they offered a teacher training programme in New Zealand I was glad to take part, happy to see conscious dance evolving more broadly in this country. I have since integrated new ideas into my existing practice and aptly renamed it "Core Connexion on the Open Floor".
I would like to acknowledge: my most important teachers on this path: Eva Vigran, Core Connexion Transformational Arts Pauline Wakeham, Kathy Altman, Lori Saltzman, Andrea Juhan, 5 Rhythms Melissa Michaels, Surfing the Creative Anna Halprin, Dance as Healing Art Heather Munroe, Transdance Ruth Zapora, Action Theater more recently: Geordie Jahner, conscious dance teacher extraordinaire from New Zealand and my wonderful colleagues and dance friends in New Zealand and all over the world
as well as some of the modalities I love and have explored for many years and with various teachers: Authentic Movement, Contact Improvisation and Improvisational Theatre, Yoga, Feldenkrais, Insight Meditation, Non Violent Communication Art and Creativity as taught at The Learning Connexion in Wellington, NZ
